Hello crafty friends, Today starts another challenge at FarmQuest Country Christmas. For this challenge I designed a cute trio of Snow Peeps, they are all decked out with colorful scarves each holding a plaque of Love* Faith* and Family* after all, isn't that what Christmas is all about. Adding in some sparkle using Stickles in Frosted Lace. And speaking of the Holiday Season.. it's almost here! Which I can hardly believe. Here is the card I made. Here in my neck of the woods, this weekend we could see temps going up to the 60's then plunge down into the 20's over night.... well.. this is the mid west what did we expect?? Possible snow flurries... we'll see... the weather people do try their best to predict. :) Be sure to check out and add in your creation to FarmQuest Country Christmas Challenge = November 7th - December 5th. Be sure to leave some comment love, I enjoy reading. Thank you for stopping by, Blessings, Mary

It didn't start with a NUT
Waking up one morning to a chilled house... my husband comes in from the garage (after checking the furnace), and says, it's not working. The motor was hot, good thing he checked as it could have started a fire. The furnace was purchased new in 2020, surely it couldn't have failed so quickly... could it? We anxiously wondered what we should do, while my husband pondered on this, I called the company that installed it. The woman on the other end said yes, someone will be out later in the day. Good. What part failed we pondered. It wasn't that long ago that my husband's mother had passed away, we had received an inheritance... it wasn't a huge amount, but we had been very grateful for the boost in our household budget. Well we know from experience (after my mother passed away) how different household (large) appliances tend to give up the ghost. It's as if, these appliances secretly know when you have money.... no, really. It's true. It's a secret society. Up until the furnace decided to give us a scare... we had to replace our washing machine. I can count on my hand how many washing machines we have gone through since living in this home. 5. The last one we milked for however long we could, it complained with loud noisy sounds, like the gears were literally grinding down. The last straw was when I found brown grease all over my clothes. UGH what a mess. Number 6, was purchased second hand. And it's a work horse. I love it. Can you guess what went next? My Lazy Boy chair, the most comfortable place to sit, the bottom of the seat fell through.. after I fell back into the chair. What a scare for me! My husband asked me why I did that, well, what was I supposed to do?, fall on the floor and possibly break a bone. No. The poor chair took the full impact of my fall... sigh. Within the week we had selected a new chair. And it's very comfortable. Note to self, steady myself before I rise. *rolling my eyes* :) Getting back to the furnace. The tech came out and found the problem, a squirrel had dropped a black walnut into the outside exhaust PVC tube. He said the fan will continue to run, but it was the nut that made the motor hot. LOL!!! What a relief to know it wasn't a major part that had failed. We still had to pay for the tech to come out to the house. That was one expensive NUT! Squirrels are a source of entertainment for us, we love to feed the birds, but those nosy little creatures visit our feeders. Now you might be wondering if we feed walnuts to the silly squirrels, we have but not anymore. The walnut he found wasn't from any of our trees, they must have carried that one from a few blocks away. Other items we had to get recently... a new mattress. Our other one was over 20 years old, and wasn't holding its shape too well. We decided to save a few bucks and get one of the popular (boxed) mattresses. The kind that comes rolled up, it's mainly made from quality foam, with a layer of memory (cooling) type on the top. The store was running an excellent sale. That we couldn't pass up. I can honestly say... after waiting anxiously to see this mattress "spring" up to its full 10 inches... they should tell you... in the instructions... "persons who are tending to sleep on this mattress should be relatively in good physical shape before lying down"... *as I type this out, I am laughing* and I will tell you why, the first couple of nights that we slept on the thing... my behind sunk into like a dip, not really a hole... but it conformed to the shape of my bottom. I tend to be a side sleeper, and when rolling over, it takes much umph to wiggle yourself to the other side. Meaning you need to have good strong stomach muscles. Wow, who knew this important step to buying something like this. I can tell you, I'm not the most health conscience person out there, the days of playing tennis are long gone. Riding bicycles is more our style. Needless to say... I'm getting more and more used to it. But if I had my way, I would have gone for more of a regular standard mattress. **The fridge is still working keeping the food cold, but it complains with loud growling sounds,.... hopefully the other appliances haven't influenced it too much. :) Well, I hope you may have had a good chuckle when reading this. If it has helped to make you smile, then leave a comment. Thank you, blessings Mary
**As I was typing this out, it's very late into the early morning hours, it's a bit windy outside, the chimes are ringing... and also heard thumping sounds on the corner of the roof, just above my room. I'm wondering if a large raccoon decided to get up there... we don't have any close by trees... I'm letting you all know... cause it fruited me out. **
Good night, sweet dreams....
It was time...
Good morning~ This will make my third post in the early morning hours. It was time for me to pull my cards and everything I sold at the shop. The place I once loved and a source of joy. I won't go into too much detail, but I felt that all the work my husband and I had put into painting, and drawing... we did sell a few items... we found that we were no longer welcome there. I started to sense a feeling or undertow... or tone. Items that should have sold for more we were forced to sell for less than the time we put into these items. The owner used to be excited over our work, then somehow everything changed. Ideas we had, were now "stolen". Communication broke down. On the day, we came in to retrieve our things, everything had been boxed up, or tossed into a bag. Without a care. It just broke my heart. The owner didn't say a word to us. The "friendships" we forged... had been broken like glass. It felt as if my heart was now on the floor broken in pieces, just to be swept up and thrown into the trash can. My husband and I were in shock, as we drove home. He mentioned to me that I might want to check to see if all my things were in the bag, I didn't bother to look until a few days later.... to tell you the truth, I'm not really sure if all my things have been returned or not, but I'm not worried. I'm done. I won't be returning. I will say, when I thought we were on better terms, I helped to encourage other craft makers... by purchasing items that they had hand crafted. I never felt coerced into making these purchases.... I just wanted to.
On a better brighter note... I have decided to create my own homemade soaps; lotion bars; candles; and little items. And to think I used to purchase some pretty expensive things. But not anymore I am over that. Many moons ago, I used to pour all my own soy candles, I made my own soaps and sold many. I had repeat customers. Along with all of that, my husband and I were asked to do a church fundraiser event to help with the youth group activities. I was much younger in my 40's back then... still had lots of energy to do that kind of thing. Alas now in my early 60's I thought I was over all of that too... but being at the shop... buying the various candles... not really liking the smell all that much after they were lit. I told my husband do you think it would be a little weird of me to make candles again? He could hardly believe what he was hearing... but, being in the shop seeing what others had made and were selling.... I thought why couldn't I make these same things but with my own style. And this is what I have set out to do. I'm sure if you have been in the stores around your town you've probably noticed goods going up in price... well, so far I have started to make soaps just for us to use. My husband is in love with what I have made. I'm glad. And soon I will venture out to give samples to different ones. I may not be a millionaire anytime soon, but I didn't want to allow the bad experience to dampen my spirits... instead I want to soar to new heights...
If my stories have touched your heart in some way, reach out with a comment I love to read them all. Good night. God Bless you, Mary

Challenge #25 starts today
Hello everyone, today begins a new challenge over at Farm Quest Country Christmas Challenge Blog.
Here is the card I made: This is my own photography that was taken when my husband and I were out driving around in the country on a very cold January day in 2019. This is one of my favorites. I love the way the tree branches frame the sunshine. Shadows of blue across the wind swept snow. There is beauty in the winter with the reminder that Spring is not too far off. I hope you liked scenes from Indiana.
Come join us for the Blog Challenge, October 7th - November 5th
Blessings, Mary

Challenge #24 Farm Quest Country Christmas
Hello and Welcome, to FQCCC #24! This challenge runs until October 5th. We would love to have you join us. Here is my card for this challenge. The image is from an online digital shop on Etsy called: My Front Porch Prints. I believe that is the name of it. It's from a Winter's Collection. I photographed this outside, I thought the bush would be a better setting. In the upper right hand corner I added in a piece of fabric with a button. And the lower left hand corner added in a poinsettia. I would love to have an old fashioned lamp post to decorate for the holidays in my front yard area, but I don't have. Instead we try to keep the front door decorated with garland and lights. Maybe one day I will get a lamp post. Thank you for coming by and hope to see you join in with our current challenge!
Blessings, Mary DT for FQCCCB
