Waking up one morning to a chilled house... my husband comes in from the garage (after checking the furnace), and says, it's not working. The motor was hot, good thing he checked as it could have started a fire. The furnace was purchased new in 2020, surely it couldn't have failed so quickly... could it? We anxiously wondered what we should do, while my husband pondered on this, I called the company that installed it. The woman on the other end said yes, someone will be out later in the day. Good. What part failed we pondered. It wasn't that long ago that my husband's mother had passed away, we had received an inheritance... it wasn't a huge amount, but we had been very grateful for the boost in our household budget. Well we know from experience (after my mother passed away) how different household (large) appliances tend to give up the ghost. It's as if, these appliances secretly know when you have money.... no, really. It's true. It's a secret society. Up until the furnace decided to give us a scare... we had to replace our washing machine. I can count on my hand how many washing machines we have gone through since living in this home. 5. The last one we milked for however long we could, it complained with loud noisy sounds, like the gears were literally grinding down. The last straw was when I found brown grease all over my clothes. UGH what a mess. Number 6, was purchased second hand. And it's a work horse. I love it. Can you guess what went next? My Lazy Boy chair, the most comfortable place to sit, the bottom of the seat fell through.. after I fell back into the chair. What a scare for me! My husband asked me why I did that, well, what was I supposed to do?, fall on the floor and possibly break a bone. No. The poor chair took the full impact of my fall... sigh. Within the week we had selected a new chair. And it's very comfortable. Note to self, steady myself before I rise. *rolling my eyes* :) Getting back to the furnace. The tech came out and found the problem, a squirrel had dropped a black walnut into the outside exhaust PVC tube. He said the fan will continue to run, but it was the nut that made the motor hot. LOL!!! What a relief to know it wasn't a major part that had failed. We still had to pay for the tech to come out to the house. That was one expensive NUT! Squirrels are a source of entertainment for us, we love to feed the birds, but those nosy little creatures visit our feeders. Now you might be wondering if we feed walnuts to the silly squirrels, we have but not anymore. The walnut he found wasn't from any of our trees, they must have carried that one from a few blocks away. Other items we had to get recently... a new mattress. Our other one was over 20 years old, and wasn't holding its shape too well. We decided to save a few bucks and get one of the popular (boxed) mattresses. The kind that comes rolled up, it's mainly made from quality foam, with a layer of memory (cooling) type on the top. The store was running an excellent sale. That we couldn't pass up. I can honestly say... after waiting anxiously to see this mattress "spring" up to its full 10 inches... they should tell you... in the instructions... "persons who are tending to sleep on this mattress should be relatively in good physical shape before lying down"... *as I type this out, I am laughing* and I will tell you why, the first couple of nights that we slept on the thing... my behind sunk into like a dip, not really a hole... but it conformed to the shape of my bottom. I tend to be a side sleeper, and when rolling over, it takes much umph to wiggle yourself to the other side. Meaning you need to have good strong stomach muscles. Wow, who knew this important step to buying something like this. I can tell you, I'm not the most health conscience person out there, the days of playing tennis are long gone. Riding bicycles is more our style. Needless to say... I'm getting more and more used to it. But if I had my way, I would have gone for more of a regular standard mattress. **The fridge is still working keeping the food cold, but it complains with loud growling sounds,.... hopefully the other appliances haven't influenced it too much. :) Well, I hope you may have had a good chuckle when reading this. If it has helped to make you smile, then leave a comment. Thank you, blessings Mary
**As I was typing this out, it's very late into the early morning hours, it's a bit windy outside, the chimes are ringing... and also heard thumping sounds on the corner of the roof, just above my room. I'm wondering if a large raccoon decided to get up there... we don't have any close by trees... I'm letting you all know... cause it fruited me out. **
Good night, sweet dreams....
